Criminal Justice & Law Enforcement Engagement Reform

Sponsoring and promoting legislation centered on Re-Investing, Re-Inventing, and Re-Forming police engagement policies and the judicial process from the courtroom and beyond by:

  1. Hate Crimes Act
  2. End “No-Knock Warrants”
  3. Strict Universal Body Camera Operations Policy
    1. Fully funded departments to purchase cameras for all officers in the field
    2. Cameras present and activated during the execution of all search warrants
    3. Penalties for officers who fail to turn on their camera and/or do not document the malfunction of equipment, including car cameras and body microphones
    4. Requirement that body camera footage from an officer’s use of lethal force be released within 30 days of the incident
    5. State database that is internet-based and publicly accessible, which catalogs disciplinary actions against a law enforcement officer, and Criminal penalties for officers who knowingly lie or make misleading statements in reports
    6. Civil Asset Forfeiture Reform
    7. End the allowance of officers to retire in the middle of an investigation into misconduct
    8. Loss of all retirement benefits of an officer upon conviction of the officer for misconduct that violates the rights of citizens, either state or federal
    9. Mandatory Minimum Sentencing Guidelines Reform
    10. Reform the Citizens' Arrest Statute
    11. End Qualified Immunity
    12. Decriminalization of Cannabis
  4. Provide funding to improve jail facilities and for the recruitment/retention of Department of Corrections personnel

A comprehensive review and strategy to increase African American and minority representation in leadership roles within all state departments and major SC Corporations.

  1. Comprehensive review of the minority and diversity percentage of leadership positions in all state departments and agencies
  2. Comprehensive study of minority percentages of C-Suite leadership positions within SC major corporations and businesses
  3. Encourage the hiring of Black and minority individuals within C-Suite leadership positions.

Expanding Black and Minority Participation in SC Agriculture/Agri-Business Economy

Conduct a comprehensive review and implement strategies to increase Black and minority participation within the South Carolina Agriculture and Agri-Business industry

  1. Promote Black and minority participation in the SC Hemp industry
  2. Secure the safeguard participation of Black and minority participation in proposed Medical Cannabis legislation and the potential new system enacted

Public Education Reform

Sponsoring and promoting legislation focused on providing high-quality education from pre-K through K-12 to Higher Education by:

  1. Solving the funding disparities that exist from district to district, zip code to zip code
  2. Increase tutoring and support service opportunities in minority communities
  3. Work with South Carolina’s United States Senators and Congressman to draft legislation to increase federal funding for SC HBCUs
  4. Increasing programs and curriculum opportunities to public schools in minority communities while implementing innovative methods to increase parental and community involvement

Healthcare Options for All

Sponsoring and promoting legislation focused on expanding healthcare services, access, and affordability for minority and underserved communities by:

  1. Expand medical insurance to the working uninsured to increase the number of minority nurses and physicians
  2. Work with Healthcare Professionals to educate minority communities on COVID-19 Vaccines

Economic Development and Jobs for All Communities

A comprehensive Strategy to bring quality jobs to minority communities across the state with the goals of:

  1. Working to ensure minority businesses have fair and equal opportunities to participate in SCDOT infrastructure and improvement plans
  2. Promote the education of the SC procurement process, contracts, and certifications to minority communities
  3. Sponsor and promote legislation to increase the state minimum wage
  4. Continue current broadband expansion efforts to secure expansion for rural and minority communities in South Carolina by:
    1. Sponsor and promote legislation to add additional funding to the 2023-2024 state budget to expand broadband and modernize communication options for rural communities
    2. Work with and monitor the Office of Regulatory Services’ progress on broadband expansion projects and updates
