About SCLBC
The South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus is a united body of elected officials passionately dedicated to fostering justice, equity, and opportunity for all. We stand as a vital voice for South Carolina's underserved and underrepresented communities, driven by a foundation of advocacy, legislation, and active community engagement.
Formed in 1975, at a pivotal moment in the state's political landscape, the Caucus emerged from the powerful current of the Civil Rights Movement and the renewed political participation of Black voters following the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Since then, we've evolved into a potent force within the legislature, actively shaping policy, empowering communities, and honoring a profound legacy of resilience and progress.
Empowering South Carolina’s underserved communities through advocacy, legislation, and legacy-driven leadership.
