As the 1st Regular Session of the 126th General Assembly convened on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus (SCLBC) is energized to be back at work for the people of this state.

Dear SCLBC Members, Friends and Fellow South Carolinians, Reflecting on Black History Month, I am reminded of Dr. Carter G. Woodson's visionary efforts in creating Negro History Week in 1926. His vision ensured that the invaluable contributions of African Americans would never be erased from history. This legacy continues to inspire us today, and as Chair of the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus (SCLBC), I wholeheartedly embrace the use of Black history and culture as powerful tools in our ongoing struggle for racial uplift.

Dear SCLBC Members, Friends and Fellow South Carolinians, March is Women's History Month, and it serves as a time to acknowledge the achievements and contributions of women in various fields, including politics, science, arts, social activism, and more. The South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus held a reception at Optus Bank, which was designed to honor Black History Month and Women's History Month.

Dear SCLBC Members, Friends and Fellow South Carolinians, In every chapter of our shared history—from the trials of Reconstruction to the triumphs of the Civil Rights Movement—Black leadership in South Carolina has stood firm in the fight for economic justice and equitable opportunity.

As summer reaches its peak, so does our opportunity to engage and educate our communities. The SC Legislative Black Caucus, alongside our dedicated elected officials and fellow citizens, is committed to getting voters excited about the impact of legislation at all levels of government.

As the summer season concludes, the work of the SC Legislative Black Caucus continues with vigor. While we prepare for the Fall Legislative Session, we are focused on the significant challenges presented by the current White House administration, including issues of fair representation through redistricting, due process in deportation without due process, and economic pressures on families.
